Smriti Mandhana has been playing at her best during the current ODI series against Ireland. The graceful batsman opened the series with a brilliant 73 after smashing 41 in the opening ODI. She took it a step further on Wednesday, though, smashing her 10th ODI century to demonstrate India’s supremacy.
She became the first Indian player to reach the double digits of ODI hundreds with her tenth century, which also happened to be the fastest century ever achieved by an India women’s player (70 balls).
She overtook English great Nat Sciver Brunt with the century, as both players had nine hundred before this match. Additionally, Mandhana is now getting closer to the women’s cricket record for most ODI hundreds. Mandhana needs six more tons to break the record, while Meg Lanning, an Australian legend, already has fifteen tons.
Smriti Mandhana’s assault on bowlers from Ireland
On the level field of the Saurashtra Cricket Stadium, Mandhana displayed her imperial best, determined to take on the Irish bowlers. The assault began at the first ball, and with her outstanding century, Mandhana destroyed the visitors without turning around.
As she reached the 50-run mark, the opening batswoman unleashed a burst of sixes, reaching the milestone in a record 70 balls.
With a century off 87 balls against South Africa, Mandhana broke the record held by Harmanpreet Kaur. The two team stars, Jemimah Rodrigues and Harleen Deol, also made the cut after another Harmanpreet Kaur masterclass.
